ePortfolio Tip: Shareable Links - How to Enable Access in 3 Easy Steps

Every term, it seems that there will always be at least one person who submits a link of their ePortfolio but ends up sending the wrong link or a link that cannot be accessed. There are FICs who are patient about this, but we must admit, it becomes exhausting after a while.

Just imagine being in their shoes, and you have to check tons of links (sometimes even more than a hundred), and end up seeing almost half the submissions inaccessible! And, you have to go over each one of them again once they have resolved their issue. Yikes!

The dreaded Access Denied page

Normally, I post these steps in the discussion forums, but since I noticed that this is a recurring problem, I might as well post it here and just share the link to those who need help. Simple tip, as in any other social media and websites that contain private information, it is highly recommended to always check your privacy settings.

HOW TO ENABLE ACCESS IN 3 EASY STEPS

Step 1: Log-in at eportfolios.upou.edu.ph
Step 2: On your homepage, scroll to “Share – Control your privacy” and click

Step 3: Edit Access on each page. You may opt to use “Friends, Registered users, UP Open University” or set it to Public, just to be sure that your FIC will see your work. Don't forget to change the privacy again after the term ends, especially if you do not wish to be found in search engines.

That's it! You have successfully enabled your link! Now, the tricky part. Some students tend to just copy the url on their browser once they are on the page that they need to submit. What usually happens is, they mistakenly copy the page where the link is editable, thus, any other user who clicks on it will either see an Access Denied warning, or get redirected to their own homepage. Some students on the other hand, post their main page that displays all their works, but it is recommended to get the links individually so that the FIC will immediately see the assignment that needs to be assessed. And if you have tons of links on your page, this might even annoy them. So here's another 3-step-guide on...

HOW TO GET YOUR SHARABLE LINK

OPTION 1
► If you already added your Journal list on your page
Step 1: Log-in at eportfolios.upou.edu.ph
Step 2: Go to your page
Step 3: Right click on the link and copy the url. Make sure the word “artefact” is present. Your link should look something like this:
http://eportfolios.upou.edu.ph/artefact/artefact.php?artefact=(digits)&view=(digits)

OPTION 2
► If you haven’t added your Journal list on your page
Step 1: Log-in at eportfolios.upou.edu.ph
Step 2: Go to your page and click "Edit this page"
Step 3: On the sidebar, click "Journal" and add your journal entry. Save.

Step 4: Scroll to the bottom and click "Display page".
Step 5: Right click on the link and copy the url. Make sure the word “artefact” is present. Your link should look something like this:
http://eportfolios.upou.edu.ph/artefact/artefact.php?artefact=(digits)&view=(digits)

Yep, that's a lot of artefacts huh? But, I hope you'll find these steps helpful. If you know other ways to make link sharing easier, please feel free to comment below.

It is still best to explore the Mahara website to get to know what you can do on it, or just familiarize yourself with it, since we'll be using it until our last term. And maybe, even after.
